Sanitary districts
Northfield Sanitary District No. 1 and No. 2
Two sanitary districts serve parts of Northfield. Each is its own unit of government with its own records, its own bank account, and its own governing structure. They provide different services and they are not departments of the Town.
Which one applies to you? District No. 1 is water. District No. 2 is sewer. A bill from one is not a bill from the other. If you are not sure which serves your property, ask the Clerk.
Sanitary District No. 1
Northfield Sanitary District No. 1 is a municipal water utility. It supplies metered drinking water to customers in its service area and maintains hydrants for public fire protection.
District No. 1 provides water only. Sewer service is provided by Sanitary District No. 2, a separate district.
Water emergency
For a water main break, loss of service, or low pressure, call the district's waterworks operator, Don Hart, (715) 896-9109. If you cannot reach him, call the Town Clerk at (301) 752-0774.
If there is flooding or any immediate danger to health or property, call 911 first.

- Mailed to the district address below
- Dropped in the secure drop box attached to the Town Hall on the west side, next to the bulletin board
Water quality
District No. 1 is a public water system and issues an annual Consumer Confidence Report on the quality of the drinking water. A copy is posted on the town bulletin board.

Sanitary District No. 2
Northfield Sanitary District No. 2 provides sanitary sewer service to properties within the district.
Sewer emergency
For a backup, a lift station alarm, or another urgent system problem, call Don Hart, (715) 896-9109. If you cannot reach him, call the Town Clerk at (301) 752-0774.
If sewage is backing up into a building, or there is any immediate danger to health or property, call 911 first.
Meetings
The district meets quarterly, on the second Monday of January, April, July, and October at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise posted, at the Northfield Town Hall.
Next meeting: Monday, October 12, 2026, 6:30 p.m.
Meetings are open to the public. Agendas are posted in advance at the Town Hall front door and the west-side bulletin board, and at American Legion Post 541. Notice is also sent to the Banner Journal.
Persons requiring accommodations to attend a meeting should contact the Town Clerk by 4:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
