Emergency and utility numbers

In an emergency, call 911

Fire, smoke, medical emergency, crime in progress, serious injury, or immediate danger. Give dispatch the full address, say whether you need fire, police, or ambulance, and stay on the line until dispatch tells you to hang up.

The Town Hall address for dispatch is N10752 School House Road, Hixton, WI 54635, Jackson County.

If you smell gas or rotten eggs, or suspect a propane leak: leave immediately, do not use lights, phones, or appliances, and call 911 from outside.

How to request a record

You do not have to make your request in writing and you do not have to say why you want the record. A written request helps both sides, because it makes clear what was asked for and when. Describe the record with enough detail that it can be found: what it is, and the date or date range.

Requests are filled as soon as practicable and without delay.

Costs

The Town does not currently charge for photocopies. The law allows an authority to charge the actual, necessary, and direct cost of copying, and allows it to provide copies without charge where it decides a waiver is in the public interest (Wis. Stat. § 19.35(3)(e)). Requests to the Town have been small enough that copies have simply been provided.

If a request is large enough that copying or mailing it would cost the Town real money, you will be told the estimated cost before any work is done, and prepayment may be required for amounts over $5. Nothing is charged for inspecting records, and nothing is charged for redacting them.

If a request is denied

If a request is denied in whole or in part, you will be given the reason. A denial of a written request will be in writing and will state that the denial may be reviewed.
